Description

A delicate and buttery shortbread-style cookie topped with a classic chocolate kiss. These melt-in-your-mouth treats are simple to make with just a few pantry staples. The dough is rolled into balls, baked until just set, and crowned with a chocolate candy while warm. Finished with a dusting of powdered sugar, they are perfect for holiday cookie platters or a sweet afternoon snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 30 chocolate kisses, unwrapped
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  6. Shape the cookie dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but not browned.
  8. Immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar for a delightful finish.

Notes

  • Unwrap all the chocolate kisses before the cookies come out of the oven so you can press them in immediately while the dough is soft.
  • Do not overbake; the cookies should remain pale to maintain their tender, melting texture.
  • If the dough feels too soft or sticky to roll, chill it in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.
