Description

A playful and rich no-bake dessert that appeals to kids and adults alike. This ‘Decadent Oreo Dirt Cake’ features a buttery Oreo crumb crust layered with a sweetened cream cheese mixture and a fluffy vanilla pudding mousse. It is finished with a ‘dirt’ layer of cookie crumbs and festive gummy worms, making it a perfect treat for potlucks or children’s parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 oz) Oreo cookies
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 small packages instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 8 oz whipped topping, thawed
  • Gummy worms (optional)

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or a rolling pin. Combine the crumbs with the melted butter in a bowl.
  2. Press half of the crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch pan to form the base layer. Set the remaining crumbs aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and the instant vanilla pudding mix until it has thickened, about 2 minutes.
  5. Gently fold the thawed whipped topping into the thickened pudding mixture until combined.
  6. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the Oreo crust in the pan.
  7. Pour the pudding and whipped topping mixture over the cream cheese layer and spread smooth.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining Oreo crumbs evenly over the top to create the ‘dirt’ look.
  9. Decorate by placing gummy worms on top as desired.
  10. Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours to allow it to set before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the cream cheese is fully softened to room temperature to avoid lumps in the filling.
  • You can use a food processor to easily turn the Oreos into fine crumbs, or place them in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin.
  • This is a great make-ahead dessert; it often tastes even better after sitting in the fridge overnight.
  • For individual servings, you can layer the ingredients into small clear cups or jars.
