Christmas Gooey Butter Cookies: Easy Holiday Treats

  • Author: Jessica

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz (226g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar (for coating)
  • Optional: festive sprinkles or crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and cream cheese using a hand or stand mixer until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue beating until fully incorporated and creamy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
  6. Scoop out 1-inch portions of dough using a cookie scoop or spoon. Roll each dough ball in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  7. Place the coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers remain soft and gooey.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Optional: Decorate with festive sprinkles or crushed candy canes while still warm.
