Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Batter:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix to keep the bars tender.
- Bake the Bars:
- Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
