Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups whole milk (or substitute almond or oat milk for a dairy-free option)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup high-quality cocoa powder (Dutch-processed recommended)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or sweetener of choice, like maple syrup or honey)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Optional Toppings:
- Whipped cream
- Marshmallows
- Chocolate shavings
- Crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Prepare the Base:Â In your crockpot, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk together until smooth and well combined.
- Set the Temperature:Â Turn the crockpot to the “low” setting and allow the mixture to heat for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching and ensure even heating.
- Check Consistency: Before serving, whisk the hot chocolate to ensure a creamy, velvety texture. If it’s too thick for your liking, add a splash of milk and stir.
- Serve and Enjoy:Â Ladle the hot chocolate into mugs and top with your favorite garnishes, such as whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings.
