Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon flavor extract (peppermint, cherry, lemon, etc.)
  • Food coloring of your choice
  • Optional: edible glitter or luster dust for decoration

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Have all your tools, including a candy thermometer, ready.
  2. Combine the Base Ingredients: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, mix the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Place over medium-high heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Monitor the Temperature: Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan without letting it touch the bottom. Allow the mixture to boil without stirring, watching closely as it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Add Flavor and Color: Remove the saucepan from heat. Quickly stir in the flavor extract and food coloring of your choice. Be cautious as the mixture will bubble.
  5. Shape the Candy: Pour the hot candy mixture onto the prepared baking sheet or into silicone molds. For freeform candies, spread the mixture thinly using a greased spatula.
  6. Cool and Break: Allow the candy to cool completely (about 1 hour). Once hardened, break it into pieces or remove it from the molds.
  7. Decorate: Add edible glitter or luster dust for a magical finish. Store in an airtight container to keep the candies fresh.
