Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Optional: 1/2 cup blueberries or chocolate chips for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Incorporate the Butter:
Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the Milk:
Slowly pour in the milk and stir until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Optional Mix-ins:
If desired, gently fold in blueberries, chocolate chips, or other mix-ins of your choice.
  6. Shape the Dough:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Shape it into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into 8 wedges.
  7. Bake the Scones:
Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are lightly golden.
  8. Cool and Serve:
Remove from the oven and let the scones cool slightly. Serve warm with clotted cream, butter, or jam.
