- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
- 1 cup onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 burger buns, toasted
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small crumbles with a spatula. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until softened.
- Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well to combine.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Toast the burger buns lightly. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns, then top with the remaining halves.
- Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw or potato chips.
