Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 slices of bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon (divided)
  • ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for serving)
  • Maple syrup (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven – Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 12-count muffin tin with non-stick spray.
  2. Prepare the Bread – Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and set aside.
  3. Make the Custard Mixture – In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, maple extract, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. Soak the Bread – Add the bread cubes to the custard mixture, stirring until all pieces are evenly coated and have absorbed the liquid.
  5. Fill the Muffin Tin – Divide the soaked bread mixture evenly among the prepared muffin tin cups.
  6. Make the Cinnamon-Sugar Topping – In a small bowl, mix together granulated sugar and the remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Sprinkle an even amount on top of each muffin.
  7. Bake the Muffins – Place the tin in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and slightly firm.
  8. Cool & Serve – Allow the muffins to cool for a few minutes before removing them. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup if desired.
