Description

Learn how to make a delicious and easy Ground Turkey Teriyaki Stir Fry in just 30 minutes! This recipe combines lean ground turkey, fresh vegetables, and a homemade teriyaki sauce for a satisfying and healthy meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Teriyaki Sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup water, divided
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated or minced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

For the Stir Fry:

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 3 cups broccoli florets, fresh or frozen
  • 1 small onion, small diced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • Salt and pepper to taste, as desired

Instructions

1. Make the Teriyaki Sauce: A Sweet and Savory Blend

  1. Combine Ingredients (Except Cornstarch and Water): In a small saucepan, combine ¾ cup of water, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, and brown sugar. Stir well to combine.
  2. Bring to Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a low boil.
  3. Make Cornstarch Slurry: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining ¼ cup of cold water and the cornstarch until smooth. This forms a slurry, which will thicken the sauce.
  4. Thicken Sauce: Slowly stir the cornstarch slurry into the simmering sauce. Whisk constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
  5. Simmer and Remove: Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency, about 1-2 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat immediately.
  6. Add Orange Zest: Stir in the orange zest.
  7. Set Aside: Set the teriyaki sauce aside until you’re ready to add it to the stir-fry.

2. Cook the Ground Turkey and Vegetables: Building the Stir-Fry Base

  1. Heat Oil: Add the sesame oil to a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Sauté Onions: Add the diced onions (or leeks, as suggested in the recipe) to the skillet and cook for several minutes, until softened.
  3. Add Turkey: Add the ground turkey to the skillet.
  4. Brown Turkey: Cook the ground turkey, breaking it up with a wooden spoon or spatula as it cooks, until it’s fully browned and no longer pink, about 7-10 minutes.
  5. Add Broccoli and Carrots: Add the broccoli florets and shredded carrots to the skillet.
  6. Cook Vegetables: Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are heated through and tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
    • Tip: If using frozen broccoli, it will release some liquid as it cooks. You can increase the heat slightly to help evaporate the excess moisture.

3. Combine and Simmer: Infusing with Teriyaki Flavor

  1. Reduce Heat: Reduce the heat to low.
  2. Add Sauce: Stir in the prepared teriyaki sauce.
  3. Simmer: Simmer for several minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has coated the turkey and vegetables and the flavors have melded.

4. Serve: Enjoying Your Quick and Flavorful Creation

  1. Serve Hot: Serve the Ground Turkey Teriyaki Stir Fry immediately while it’s hot.
  2. Serve with Rice: Serve over cooked rice (white, brown, jasmine, etc.) or another grain of your choice.
