Description

Chocolate-Covered Strawberries are a timeless treat, a perfect combination of juicy, fresh strawberries and rich, decadent chocolate

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pint Large Strawberries
  • 4 ounces Semisweet Chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1/2 teaspoon Shortening, divided
  • 1 ounce White Baking Chocolate
  • 4 drops Food Coloring, optional

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Strawberries.

Wash the strawberries and gently pat them with paper towels until completely dry. It’s important that the strawberries are dry. So the chocolate will adhere properly.

Step 2: Melt the Semisweet Chocolate.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the semisweet chocolate and 1 tablespoon of the shortening at 50% power.

Stir until smooth.

Step 3: Dip the Strawberries.

Dip each strawberry into the melted chocolate, holding it by the stem or leaves.

Place the dipped strawberries on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet.

Step 4: Freeze Briefly.

Freeze the strawberries for 5 minutes. This helps the chocolate to set quickly.

Step 5: Melt the White Chocolate.

Meanwhile, microwave the white chocolate and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of shortening at 30% power until melted.

Stir until smooth.

Stir in food coloring, if desired.

Step 6: Drizzle with White Chocolate.

Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the strawberries.

Step 7: Chill.

Refrigerate the strawberries until serving. This allows the chocolate to set completely.
