Ingredients
For the Casserole
1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
1 package (25 oz) frozen or fresh cheese ravioli
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
For the Ricotta Mixture
1 cup ricotta cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1 large egg
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (or 1 tsp dried)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C)
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray or olive oil
Step 2: Prepare the Meat Sauce
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook 1 lb ground beef and 1 chopped onion
Sauté for 5–7 minutes until the meat is browned and the onion is soft
Drain excess fat
Add 2 minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 more minute
Stir in 1 jar of marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes
Remove from heat and set aside
Step 3: Make the Ricotta Mixture
In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup ricotta, 1/2 cup sour cream, and 4 oz softened cream cheese
Add 1 egg, 1/4 cup chopped parsley, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper
Mix until the filling is smooth and creamy
Step 4: Assemble the Casserole
Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of the baking dish
Arrange half of the ravioli in a single layer over the sauce
Spoon half of the ricotta mixture evenly over the ravioli
Top with half of the remaining meat sauce
Sprinkle with 1 cup of shredded mozzarella
Repeat with the remaining ravioli, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and finish with the remaining mozzarella and 1/2 cup Parmesan
Step 5: Bake
Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes
Remove foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, or until bubbly and golden
Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving
Step 6: Serve
Sprinkle with more parsley, if desired
Serve warm and enjoy the melty, saucy layers in every forkful
