Description
Texas Toast Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on a classic dish, combining savory ground beef in a tangy tomato-barbecue sauce served over crispy garlic Texas toast and topped with melty cheddar cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup bottled barbecue sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 box (8 slices) frozen garlic Texas toast
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or more to taste)
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown and crumble the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
- Return the beef to the skillet and add diced tomatoes, ketchup, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar.
- Stir well to combine, then cover and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare the garlic Texas toast according to the package instructions.
- Once the toast is ready, spoon the sloppy joe mixture over each slice.
- Top with shredded cheddar cheese. Optionally, place the assembled slices in the oven briefly to melt and brown the cheese.
- Serve hot and enjoy.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add a dash of hot sauce or chili flakes to the beef mixture.
- You can use ground turkey or chicken as a lighter alternative to beef.
- To make it extra cheesy, use a blend of cheddar and mozzarella.
- For added crunch, top with fried onions or pickle slices before serving.
- This dish is great for casual dinners or parties and pairs well with a green salad or fries.
