Description

Texas Toast Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on a classic dish, combining savory ground beef in a tangy tomato-barbecue sauce served over crispy garlic Texas toast and topped with melty cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup bottled barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 box (8 slices) frozen garlic Texas toast
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or more to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown and crumble the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  2. Return the beef to the skillet and add diced tomatoes, ketchup, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar.
  3. Stir well to combine, then cover and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the garlic Texas toast according to the package instructions.
  5. Once the toast is ready, spoon the sloppy joe mixture over each slice.
  6. Top with shredded cheddar cheese. Optionally, place the assembled slices in the oven briefly to melt and brown the cheese.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add a dash of hot sauce or chili flakes to the beef mixture.
  • You can use ground turkey or chicken as a lighter alternative to beef.
  • To make it extra cheesy, use a blend of cheddar and mozzarella.
  • For added crunch, top with fried onions or pickle slices before serving.
  • This dish is great for casual dinners or parties and pairs well with a green salad or fries.
