Ingredients
Scale
- 450 g ground beef
- 200 g long-grain white rice, uncooked
- 720 ml low-sodium beef broth
- 1 small onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 45 g butter
- 120 g shredded cheddar cheese
- 50 g grated Parmesan cheese
- 120 ml milk
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat 15 g of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
- Add ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks, until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Stir in uncooked rice, beef broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Bring to a gentle boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes until rice is tender and most liquid is absorbed.
- In a small saucepan, melt the remaining 30 g butter over low heat. Add milk, cheddar cheese, and Parmesan cheese, stirring constantly until smooth.
- Pour the cheese sauce into the skillet with the beef and rice mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine.
- Cook uncovered for 2-3 minutes to meld flavors. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve hot.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use freshly grated Parmesan and sharp cheddar cheese.
- Use low-sodium broth to control saltiness.
- Make it spicier by adding red pepper flakes when sautéing garlic.
- Can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
