Description
These Sausage French Toast Roll-Ups are a fun and delicious twist on classic French toast. Soft bread wrapped around savory sausage links, dipped in a cinnamon-vanilla egg batter, and cooked until golden brown. Perfect for brunch or a weekend breakfast treat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices white or whole wheat sandwich bread (soft and fresh)
- 8 cooked breakfast sausage links (pork, turkey, or veggie)
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for cooking)
- Cream cheese (optional, for spreading)
- Maple syrup (for dipping or drizzling)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
- Fresh fruit (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Cook the breakfast sausage links according to package instructions. Set aside.
- Trim the crusts off the bread slices. Flatten each slice with a rolling pin.
- In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon to make the batter.
- Place one sausage link at the end of each flattened bread slice. Roll the bread tightly around the sausage and press to seal.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon butter. Dip each roll-up in the egg mixture, coating all sides.
- Place roll-ups seam-side down in the skillet. Cook, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown, about 3–4 minutes per side.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Serve drizzled with maple syrup, dusted with powdered sugar, and with fresh fruit if desired.
Notes
- You can spread cream cheese on the bread before rolling for extra flavor.
- Secure roll-ups with toothpicks while cooking if needed; remember to remove before serving.
- Use a nonstick skillet for even cooking and easier cleanup.
- For a sweeter version, add a sprinkle of brown sugar to the egg batter.
- Great for make-ahead: prepare the roll-ups the night before and cook in the morning.
