- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite blend)
- 2 cups milk
- 6 cups cubed bread (preferably day-old)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). - Cook the Sausage:
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the breakfast sausage until fully cooked, breaking it into small pieces. Drain any excess grease. - Prepare the Egg Mixture:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using) until well combined. - Layer the Ingredients:
- Grease a baking dish (9×13 inches works well).
- Spread the cubed bread evenly across the bottom.
- Layer the cooked sausage over the bread cubes.
- Add the Egg Mixture:
Pour the egg mixture over the bread and sausage, making sure it’s evenly distributed. - Top with Cheese:
Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top. - Bake:
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top. - Cool and Serve:
Allow the casserole to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
