  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite blend)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 6 cups cubed bread (preferably day-old)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the Sausage:
    In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the breakfast sausage until fully cooked, breaking it into small pieces. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Prepare the Egg Mixture:
    In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using) until well combined.
  4. Layer the Ingredients:
    • Grease a baking dish (9×13 inches works well).
    • Spread the cubed bread evenly across the bottom.
    • Layer the cooked sausage over the bread cubes.
  5. Add the Egg Mixture:
    Pour the egg mixture over the bread and sausage, making sure it’s evenly distributed.
  6. Top with Cheese:
    Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  7. Bake:
    Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
  8. Cool and Serve:
    Allow the casserole to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
