Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Chicken:
    • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • For the Sauce:
    • 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1/2 cup diced onions (optional for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. Season the Chicken:
    • Pat the chicken dry and season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a bowl, mix the BBQ sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  3. Slow Cook the Chicken:
    • Place the seasoned chicken in the crockpot. Add the diced onions (if using).
    • Pour the prepared BBQ sauce mixture evenly over the chicken.
    • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
  4. Shred the Chicken:
    • Once the chicken is done, use two forks to shred it directly in the crockpot.
    • Stir the shredded chicken into the sauce, making sure it’s evenly coated.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve the BBQ chicken on sandwich buns, in tacos, over rice, or alongside your favorite sides. Add extra BBQ sauce if desired.
