Description

These Ham and Cheese Butter Biscuits are fluffy, buttery, and loaded with savory ham and cheddar cheese, baked to golden perfection. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a hearty snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 310 grams all-purpose flour
  • 13 grams granulated sugar
  • 13 grams aluminum-free baking powder
  • 415 milliliters buttermilk, plus more as needed
  • 250 grams small diced ham
  • 170 grams shredded cheddar cheese
  • 115 grams salted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 230°C (450°F). Coat a 23×23 cm glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick cooking spray containing flour.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and baking powder until evenly combined.
  3. Pour the buttermilk into the dry mixture and stir until a thick, sticky batter forms. Add more buttermilk if needed.
  4. Gently fold in the diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  5. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish, coating the bottom evenly.
  6. Spread the dough over the melted butter in the dish. Use nonstick-sprayed hands to ease the spreading.
  7. Using a knife, score the dough into 9 squares to assist with portioning after baking.
  8. Place the dish on the middle oven rack and bake for 25–30 minutes, rotating halfway through. Shield with foil if browning too quickly.
  9. Biscuits are done when golden brown and spring back when pressed. A toothpick inserted should come out clean. Cut along the scored lines and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for better melt and flavor.
  • Ensure buttermilk is cold to help create flaky layers.
  • Rotate the pan halfway through baking for even color and doneness.
  • Leftover biscuits can be reheated in a low oven to retain texture.
  • Try adding herbs like chives or parsley for extra flavor.
