- 13 grams granulated sugar
- 13 grams aluminum-free baking powder
- 415 milliliters buttermilk, plus more as needed
- 250 grams small diced ham
- 170 grams shredded cheddar cheese
- 115 grams salted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 230°C (450°F). Coat a 23×23 cm glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick cooking spray containing flour.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and baking powder until evenly combined.
- Pour the buttermilk into the dry mixture and stir until a thick, sticky batter forms. Add more buttermilk if needed.
- Gently fold in the diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
- Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish, coating the bottom evenly.
- Spread the dough over the melted butter in the dish. Use nonstick-sprayed hands to ease the spreading.
- Using a knife, score the dough into 9 squares to assist with portioning after baking.
- Place the dish on the middle oven rack and bake for 25–30 minutes, rotating halfway through. Shield with foil if browning too quickly.
- Biscuits are done when golden brown and spring back when pressed. A toothpick inserted should come out clean. Cut along the scored lines and serve warm.
